Why Being a B Driver Deserves More Respect
Why working as a B driver deserves more respect, and why now is the right moment to choose it

The job market is challenging right now. Many skilled individuals are actively seeking work, sending out applications, and still hearing little to no response. Meanwhile, one sector faces the opposite issue: logistics is desperately short on workers.
Yet too often, I notice that many job seekers completely overlook one role: working as a driver. And that’s unfortunate because the reality of the job is very different from the outdated image many people still hold.
Being a driver is not a “fallback job.”
Let’s be honest: driving is sometimes viewed as a job you do only if there are no other options, as if it requires little responsibility or intelligence. At DNZ, our experience tells us otherwise.
A good B driver needs to be:
- reliable and self-sufficient
- customer-focused
- capable of planning, thinking ahead, and solving problems on the road
- comfortable representing a company at customer sites
- precise with documentation, timing, and communication
In many ways, a driver is the face of the company. They are the last and most visible link in the supply chain and often the one customers remember. This is not unskilled work. It’s a role for people who take pride in what they do.
A realistic opportunity for career switchers
What makes the B driver role especially interesting today is how accessible it is. You don’t need years of sector-specific experience. You don’t need a perfect CV tailored to one profession.
If you:
- enjoy working independently,
- like being on the move,
- take responsibility seriously, and
- want stable work in a sector that truly needs people,
then logistics can be a very smart career move.
We regularly see people coming from completely different backgrounds, retail, hospitality, office roles, and even sectors that are currently shrinking, who turn out to be excellent drivers.
A strong option for expats and partners new to the Netherlands
There is another group I want to address specifically: expats and expat partners who recently moved to the Netherlands. Finding work without speaking Dutch fluently can be extremely difficult. Many talented people feel stuck or underutilized simply because of the language barrier.
Working as a driver can be a very good solution:
- English is often sufficient
- the work is practical and structured
- you become familiar with the country, the culture, and the working environment
- you gain local work experience, which opens doors later on
We have seen this work very well in practice.
Logistics is not a temporary choice; it’s a growing sector
One thing is certain: logistics is not going anywhere. E-commerce, supply chains, same-day deliveries, and specialized transport continue to grow.
That means job security, opportunities to develop, and room to grow.
At DNZ, we actively invest in people. Ambitious B drivers can grow further, including the possibility of moving towards a C license when the fit is right.
We are looking for drivers
At DNZ Transport en Koerierdiensten BV, we are currently looking for motivated B drivers who take pride in their work and enjoy being part of a professional, people-driven company.
If you are:
- unemployed and exploring new options,
- considering a career switch,
- an expat (or expat partner) looking for a realistic entry into the Dutch job market, or
- simply ready for a role with responsibility and purpose,
then I invite you to reach out to us.
Sometimes the right opportunity is not the one you originally planned but the one that turns out to fit you best.
📩 Feel free to contact us directly at sales@dnzkoeriersdiensten.nl or apply via LinkedIn.
Before I close, I’m curious: Have you ever considered a career in logistics or as a driver?
